Organize and connect workflow steps

Use Tree and Flow, add connections, and insert a step into an existing sequence.

Written by Alex Merkin

Use Tree to find and group instructions and Flow to inspect their connections. Both views show the same workflow. Execution follows connections, not where a card appears on screen.

Add and connect a step

  1. Click Add Step in the workflow pane and select the new step.

  2. In Basic Info, enter its Title and Description. Choose a chapter if the instruction belongs in one.

  3. Select the instruction that should run immediately before it. Open Routing → Add Exit Route.

  4. Under Target Step, select the new instruction. Leave the condition empty only when this is the intended unconditional route.

  5. Wait for Saved. Switch to Flow and inspect the arrow from the source to the target.

You can also draw a connection in Flow by dragging from a source card’s connection handle to the target card. Click the arrow to inspect the source step’s Routing settings.

Routing tab showing Target Step and an unconditional route

Routing → Target Step identifies the next instruction. Read-only example: the target is selected and the condition is empty.

Insert C between A and B

  1. Create C and write its instructions.

  2. Select A, open Routing, and find its existing route to B.

  3. Change that route’s target from B to C. Check whether its existing condition should still apply.

  4. Select C and add a route to B.

  5. Inspect Flow, then preview from the root. The intended path is A → C → B.

For a branch, review every affected incoming and outgoing connection. Avoid leaving an old A → B route that bypasses C.

Use Tree to organize

Expand a chapter to find its steps, or use the instruction search and its navigation arrows. Dragging a step into a chapter changes its membership. It does not replace or reorder its connections. Branching can make the outline differ from a simple sequential list.

Use Flow to inspect

Drag cards to arrange the diagram, or use Auto Layout. Moving cards changes the layout, not the route targets. The canvas controls help you pan, zoom, and fit the diagram.

Add a decision

Create both target steps, then give each route its own explicit condition. For a Pass/Fail field, use Result equals Pass for one target and Result equals Fail for the other. An empty condition is unconditional; do not rely on it as an automatic final else path.

Preview every intended path after reconnecting steps. Use Undo for an unwanted edit, then confirm the restored connections and save status.
