⚠️ Using a partially assembled part – when and how to do it (carefully)

📌 The issue:

You're trying to use a part that was only partially assembled – for example, connect it to a parent – but Next Plus won’t let you.

That’s because the session for that part is still open, and it still has kit items (child parts) that haven’t been reported yet.
Until the session is finished, the part is considered incomplete and can’t be used in other assemblies.

⚠️ Important note before we continue:

This is not a recommended workflow and should only be used in exceptional or time-sensitive production scenarios — for example, when you must move forward and a few components are temporarily missing.

If possible, we always recommend completing the full assembly and reporting process before moving the part forward in production.

💡 The workaround:

If you do need to proceed, you can manually remove any unreported kit items from the part’s Work Order screen.
This tells the system you're not planning to report them (at this stage), which will allow you to finish the session and use the part.

✋ How to do it:

  1. Go to the Work Order screen of the part.

  2. Open the Kit tab.

  3. Remove any kit items that haven’t been reported yet.

  4. Now go to the Session screen of that part.

  5. You’ll see that you can now finish the session.

  6. Once finished, you’re free to use the part – for example, attach it to a parent part in a new session.

🔄 Want to complete the assembly later?

No problem – you can still do that:

  1. Detach the part from its parent (via the parent’s Work Order screen).

  2. Go back to the part’s Work Order screen, and re-add the missing kit items.

  3. Enter the session and report the items in the S/N Serial Reporting tab.

  4. When you're done, you can reconnect the part to its parent.

🧠 Real-life tip:

This flow can help keep production moving during tight deadlines or component shortages – but use it carefully and only when necessary.
